My Speech

Pollution in seas

Did you know that precious sea creatures such as turtles, cute dolphins, even ferocious sharks are killed daily from plastic that ends up in the ocean???  PLASTIC that WE have thrown away over the years, such as Plastic bags, chippie packets, straws, bottles and so on.

Sea animals
About 100,000 sea animals die each year after becoming strangled by plastic.Roughly 8 million plastic bottles are littered each year, just dropped and left to cause havoc.
Statistics show that `Marine plastic pollution has killed  up to 86% of sea turtle species, 44% of seabird species and 43% of all marine species. Turtles sometimes choke on plastic bags, confusing them with jellyfish, young seabirds die when  their parents feed them plastic pieces they’ve  mistaken for fish.

Problems with plastic
Plastic was made 150 years ago,it’s very useful but it’s also long lasting, and can cause incredible damage.Plastic bags and bottles could last hundreds, thousands or millions of years.
Some people think how does rubbish get  into the ocean?.
Well, small pieces of rubbish are tossed onto the street and are often washed into storm drains that go straight out to sea.
The Pacific Ocean contains a vast area  of rubbish known as the Great Pacific  Garbage Patch spread over 700,000 Square kilometers- that’s around the size of texas,USA!!!

Conclusion
So In conclusion ,my advice to everyone is to stop littering,  Make sure that chippie packet in your lunch box goes into the bin, say no to plastic bags at the supermarket if you do this you will be helping  sea animals to survive!
